Dr. Stephanie McGrath Addresses CSU Pueblo

Assessment of Safety, Toxicity, and Pharmacokinetics of Cannabidiol in Healthy Dogs

Have you ever wanted to know more about ABSC and how we came to be involved with clinical trials at CSU? We’re pulling a video out of the archives today to share with you! This short video of Veterinary Neurologist Dr. Stephanie McGrath speaking at a conference at CSU Pueblo in 2017 highlights her work on safety, toxicity, and pharmacokinetics of CBD. During her talk, Dr. McGrath discusses her interest in testing CBD for dogs and her concerns with unregulated and untested CBD products. She needed a safe and pure product to run trials with, and ABSC wanted to support advanced research in the field. It was a match made in heaven, and the rest is history!

AKCCHF Update on the Science Behind CBD For Pets

Learn from Stephanie McGrath, DVM, in the latest installment of  the VetVine – AKC Canine Health Foundation Canine Health Bytes education series

Our favorite veterinarian and Board Certified specialist in Neurology went live on VetVine last week! Dr. Stephanie McGrath is one of the nation’s leading experts in the field of veterinary CBD clinical research, and she has conducted several clinical trials with our Pure Organic CBD oil. In partnership with the AKC’s Canine Health Foundation and VetVine, she presented a timely update on the science behind veterinary CBD use.

Dr. McGrath’s webinar is packed with valuable information for veterinarians and pet owners. If you missed it, don’t despair – you can still register with VetVine at no cost and view the webinar on demand!

In this one hour presentation, Dr. McGrath covers many important topics related to veterinary CBD use:

  • Legal hurdles facing veterinarians and researchers – did you know that your vet can’t discuss CBD options unless you bring it up first?
  • Clinical trials that have already been completed at Colorado State University and Cornell – epilepsy and osteoarthritis studies have shown promising results.
  • Ongoing and prospective clinical trials – it’s not too late to sign up!
  • AKC-sponsored trials at CSU use ABSC Pure Organic CBD Oil™
  • Best delivery methods – oil beats capsules and topical creams
  • Clinical and anecdotal evidence for efficacy and safety
  • Concerns about lack of industry regulation – are you buying what you think you’re buying?
  • Questions about dosing and contraindications

The Endocannabinoid System Explained

Introducing our CBD Literacy video education series

Ever wondered about the science behind CBD and its effects on your dog’s body? We know that many of our furry companions who use C.H.O.™ CBD Oil get relief from pain, anxiety, seizures and more. But you may have wondered, “how and why does CBD work?”

Our friend and colleague Sam Stewart, DVM, from Ethos Veterinary Health, has prepared this excellent video to explain the endocannibinoid system. This video is the first in a series–part of our effort to lead the way in veterinary CBD research and education. In this first video, you’ll gain a better understanding of how cannabinoids like CBD affect the brain and nervous system. About halfway through (10:22), Sam gives a great example of how CBD interrupts pain signals in the peripheral nervous system. And at minute 17, you’ll find a great explanation of how CBD binds to receptors and inhibits inflammation. The entire video provides a great overview–in layman’s terms–of the powerful endocannabinoid system.

At ABSC, we’re constantly working to improve and evolve science in the name of providing a better quality of life for our ailing companion animals. Want to learn more? Check out our News and Research Library! And subscribe to our YouTube channel–we’ve got more great educational content to come!
